Having a headshot taken on location can be a great alternative to a studio setting.  If you really want to highlight your profession or some great accomplishment of yours, then having your photo taken in a location that emphasizes that is a great idea!  Here’s what to consider when booking an on-location headshot…

Your Profession
If you are in a profession that you want to have highlighted, or you want the photo to really let people know what you do, then the on-location option is great.  For instance, a chef’s photo with a kitchen in the background, a lawyer standing in front of law books, or a mechanic working on an engine.  Those are hard things to duplicate in a studio environment.

Having a Suitable Space
To ensure better results, have a dedicated space with enough room for proper lighting and equipment. Ideally, this should be a large enough area to highlight you along with other things that you want in the photos.  Having enough space for lighting is also a concern, and often times the more lights we can use the better the results.  If it’s an outdoor location you are thinking of, is it going to be accessible during the time that you have?

Scheduling the Right Time
If your home or workspace is often busy with other people, please try to schedule the time when there won’t be as many interruptions.  Allowing enough time for adjustments is also a good idea, as we might want to move things around for a different angle or look.

Plan B
Having a backup plan is always good.  If for whatever reason the space you had chosen is not available, is there another place we can get a good photo of you that represents your profession and what you’re looking for?  What if on our chosen day the weather is just not cooperating?  These are all things to think about when planning for a location headshot!
