Common Headshot Photo Questions
How do I know I will get photos that I like?
In short, you will get the photos you like because you will choose them. At the end of the headshot photo session, I have you quickly review the photos and pick the ones that you like. The photo(s) that you choose are the ones that will be delivered to you electronically. You’ll receive all the images that you like, as well as the image(s) that you choose to have retouched.
Do you offer prints?
I do not currently offer physical headshot photo prints. If you find that you need to get your photos printed there are several retail print shops you can use. Some places may require you to have a photographer’s release for prints, please contact me and I will assist you with that.
What hours or times are you available?
I typically do headshot photos in the afternoons and on Saturdays. I have some scheduling software integrated into this website that only allows people to schedule photo sessions when I plan to be available. The appointments are one hour in length and move pretty smoothly. If you need something outside of those hours please contact me.
What is the quality level of my final photos, and will they be retouched at all?
I separate the photos you chose during your session into two categories, retouched and unedited. The unedited photos are all the photos that you liked at the end of your session. I don’t do any retouching on those and typically shrink the size of the images to 1000 pixels on the longest side. This makes it easier for you to share them on social media. The photo that you choose to have retouched will be full size which is roughly 8000 x 5000 pixels in size, so it is very large. The retouched images are in a format that is 300 pixels per inch, which makes it suitable for printing. If you work for a larger company with a marketing department, they will appreciate that!
This applies to individual photo sessions only. When shooting volume headshots for companies, this may differ.
How long will my photos be available in case I need them again?
Your photos will be available to download for two weeks after I email you. You can download them as many times as you like during those two weeks and then they will be deleted from the website simply to save space on my website server. I do archive the photos on separate hard drives so that if you need the photos in the future I can get them to you.
How do you deliver photos to your clients and how long does it take?
It usually takes a few days for me to edit and prepare your final headshot photos. Once they are complete I upload them to this website, and I will email you with a link to your photos. The link I send you is not searchable by Google so you don’t have to worry about your page being found by random people. Once you have navigated to the link I send you, you will see two large blue buttons to download your photos as .zip files.
Can I bring multiple outfits to my photo session?
Absolutely! If you aren’t sure what to wear, then bringing a couple of different choices for a blouse or suit jacket is a great idea. I wouldn’t recommend more than two different outfits simply because the headshot photo session is only one hour in length.
What is a model release, and do I have to sign one?
A model release is a legal release that is very common in the photography industry, and it allows the photographer to publish the images of the person being photographed in one form or another. In my specific case, it allows me to use the photos on this website and social media to promote my business. However, you do not have to sign the model release if you choose not to.
What type of backgrounds do you offer or suggest?
The most popular option is a neutral gray color which I have equipped and ready to go in my studio. Neutral gray is a safe bet and looks good with many different outfits and color schemes. However, I also like to suggest that people try a white or black background color for their headshot photo, which I can quickly and easily switch to in the studio. Custom colors are also available upon request!
Thanks and hope to hear from you!
